George Yepes

George Yepes was born in Tijuana, Mexico in 1956 and was raised in East Los Angeles’ City Terrace neighborhood. Yepes, known as one of the painters from the Chicano Mural Movement of the late 1970s, was a principal member of the mural group East Los Streetscapers. Yepes, aka “The Lone Wolf,” has left his stylistic mark all over Los Angeles’ rich tapestry of visual culture; from his 28 murals around the City of Angels to his paintings featured in Robert Rodriquez’s 2003 film, Once Upon A Time In Mexico. His work can be found in the following permanent collections and archives: Museo del Templo Mayor Tenochtitlan, Mexico City, Mexico; Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, CA; Los Angeles Latino Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Mexican Fine Art Museum, Chicago, IL; Mesoamerican Archive, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ; Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ; and the California State Archives, Sacramento, CA.
